Bitterness (Part 2)
Bitterness is often misunderstood as a natural response to the pain and hurt we experience in life. But it goes much deeper than that. It’s not the pain itself that creates bitterness; rather, it’s the response we choose in the face of that pain and the agreements we make with the offense. In fact, without even realizing it, many of us have unknowingly made thousands of agreements throughout our lives that shape our perspectives and reactions to the world around us. These agreements can either align with God’s truth or with the lies of the enemy.
Imagine, for a moment, shaking hands with Satan or signing an agreement with him. The idea sounds horrifying, yet it is something many Christians unknowingly do. These agreements, often made in moments of pain, offense, or fear, open the door for the enemy to work in our lives. Ephesians 4:27 warns us, “Do not give the devil a foothold.” The Bible is clear—the only one who can give the enemy access to your life is you. And that access is given through the agreements you make, whether through words, actions, or thoughts.
How do these agreements form? More often than not, they are made with our words. The power of our speech cannot be underestimated. Our words are powerful—they can either bring life or death. In Proverbs 18:21, the Bible says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” This is not just a warning; it’s a profound truth about the impact of what we say. Every time we speak negatively about ourselves, our circumstances, or our future, we are inadvertently partnering with the enemy and empowering him in our lives.
For instance, when you declare something like, “I will always be afraid,” you’re giving voice to fear and making an agreement with the demonic realm. You’ve essentially invited fear into your life, and now, fear has a hold on you. This is why it’s crucial to recognize the power of our words and to speak life and truth over ourselves, as God’s Word encourages.
If you find yourself recognizing that you’ve made such agreements, it’s important to take action. Start by praying and asking God to reveal any agreements you’ve unknowingly made with the enemy. Here’s a prayer you can say:
Heavenly Father, I come before you and ask you to reveal to me every agreement that I have made with the enemy through my own sin, my words, my actions, and my thoughts. I repent for these agreements and close every door I have opened to the demonic realm. I break any oppression that has been over my life because of these agreements. I refuse to partner with the enemy any longer. I now choose to partner with you, and I stand firm on your Word. I declare that from this moment forward, I will only make agreements with your truth, your peace, and your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
This prayer is a powerful way to break free from any agreements with the enemy and align yourself with the promises of God. Remember, the enemy only has as much power over you as you give him, and the best way to reclaim your power is by choosing to partner with God through your words, your actions, and your thoughts.
When you refuse to give the enemy a foothold, when you reject bitterness, and when you speak life into your situation, you are choosing to align yourself with God’s truth and breaking the hold that the enemy may have had on your life. You have the power to change your reality by the words you speak and the agreements you make. Choose wisely, for they will determine the life you live.
